Strowler Event Info

Strowlers?

The original definition is from 18th century thieves cant: "n. Vagabonds, Itinerants, Men of no settled Abode, of a precarious Life, Wanderers of Fortune, such as Gypsies, Beggars, Pedlars, Hawkers, Mountebanks, Fidlers, Country-Players, Rope-dancers, Jugglers, Tumblers, Shewers of Tricks, and Raree-show-men." (From the Dictionary of Thieving Slang, 1737)

I saw this definition and immediately realized: that is us. That is what we are and what we do. And it means even more in the modern sense. To us, it is a word for people who make their own way, because the status quo is insufficient.

We have been producing small SJ Tucker and Tricky Pixie shows of our own for several years, with crowds up to 300. We've managed to get pretty good at running these small events, so we're going to get a bit ambitious.

This fall, we are pulling together the three largest events we have ever attempted, all connected by the simple thread of SJ Tucker, her friends, and her type of people. We want you to be a part of these events. We want you to attend, and we want you to participate, and we want you to meet your peers.

These events are as much about the community as they are about the entertainment. This is mainly because of the type of person we know you are.

A fan of SJ Tucker is a very special, unique sort of person -- but there are a lot of us out there. We tend to have a great deal in common, beyond our love of good music, yet we come from all walks of life. Our community seems to be a little bit fandom, a little bit circus, a little bit steampunk, a little bit faerie, a little bit queer, a little bit pagan, a little bit different, and a whole lot of smart. We are called to look beyond the status quo, to seek and find our own ways through life. Many of us have been inspired to step out of the default world and make our own way through life.

This is your chance to connect with the greater community of Sooj fans, Soojalites, and Strowlers; to put faces to the names of the friends we've collected in our travels around this country.

This is our chance to improve on the adventure we undertook in March of 2009 in the Trains of Heaven journey to New Orleans; to expand beyond the demisemiquaver of that intimate, life-changing event.

Please, choose one or more of these cities and join us in our biggest adventure so far.

Next Show: Weekend of February 17-19 2012
